Fireside

Fireside combines sandalwood, cedar, resins, and incense to create the scent of burning woods, reminiscent of sitting by the fire on a cool evening. Fireside and Fireside Intense both offer that unique smoked woods aroma; the Intense version has a different smoke accord, is less sweet, and has added notes of leather and agarwood.

Perfumer's Comments: Sometimes in the fall and winter when I step outside I'll feel the sudden rush of cold air touched with woodsmoke from a neighbor's fire. I associate the scent of burning woods with the cool season and also with crisp summer nights by the campfire when I was young (our parents treated us to wonderful camping trips each summer). From first sniff, I’ve liked the smoke-tinged, spicy scent of guaiacwood and the outright woodsmoke of diluted birch tar. I wanted Fireside Intense to be a bottled reminder of the scent of an outdoorsy campfire. Fireside is a slightly sweeter version without the leather notes for those who prefer a sweeter smoky scent.

Fragrance Notes: Indian sandalwood, Himalayan cedar, Texas cedar, guaiacwood, nagarmotha (Cyperus), birch tar, myrrh. For men and women. Released August 2007.

Cedrus deodara
Himalayan cedar, Cedrus deodara, and Atlas cedar, Cedrus atlantic, are large evergreen trees from which true cedar essential oils are produced. Texas cedar, Juniperus mexicana, and Virginia cedar, Juniperus virginiana, are actually junipers but their essential oils are used in perfumery as well. Atlas and Himalayan oils smell more similar to each other than to Virginia and Texas oils. Many people find that good quality Texas cedar smells the most like a cedar chest. I source a wild-grown Texas cedar oil that is specially processed and very nice.

Guaiacwood, birch tar, and nagarmotha are described on the Fireside Intense page.
