About Sonoma Scent Studio
|
I'd like to introduce myself and give some background information for those who are interested: I'm Sonoma Scent Studio's perfumer, Laurie Erickson. I'm lucky to live in the beautiful rolling hills of Sonoma County in northern California’s wine country. My cottage-style studio and garden are surrounded by wonderful oak trees and overlook the neighboring vineyards (view shown below).

I've always found the beauty of our California oaks and coastal redwoods to be inspiring and soothing, and I've also enjoyed gardening with fragrant flowers as far back as I remember. My mother and grandmother grew sweet peas, roses, and jasmine that I loved, so I asked if I could grow them in my own first garden as a girl. Growing flowers in my gardens over the years sparked my interest in blending essential oils, but I soon discovered I enjoyed blending with woods, incense, and spice notes as much as with florals.

My love of natural sciences led me to earn a B.S. in Environmental Earth Science and M.S. in Geomechanics at Stanford University, and then I worked as a technical writer while pursuing my perfume blending on the side. I formally established Sonoma Scent Studio in 2004 and it quickly required my full-time attention. Customer service is a top priority for me; I really want to help people find new scents that bring them pleasure. |

Sourcing the best ingredients is one part of the job I enjoy the most. I've sampled and studied thousands of botanical essences, perfumery ingredients, and fine perfumes from large and small fragrance houses around the world (and I know many of you perfume lovers have sampled numerous perfumes from around the world too!).

Spending time on the local wooded trails as I was growing up gave me a life-long appreciation for our natural environment as well as a stockpile of pleasant natural scent memories and associations. I enjoyed many warm afternoons in the shade of the oaks, redwoods, and bay trees, savoring their scents mingled with the scents of moist earth by the creek and dry dust on the trail. I think scent is intimately connected to our memory and moods and can add much pleasure to our lives.
I love discovering new ingredients and interesting new combinations of fragrant essences and hope you'll enjoy trying my perfumes.

I took the photo above while admiring a redwood grove in nearby Armstrong Redwood State Reserve.
